In the beginning...
| March, 1997: Kristi was on guitar, Susan was on drums, and "Erin" was on the trumpet. We decided to start a band. | ![]() |
We didn't have a name, we didn't really have any songs, we didn't really practice too much, but the passion, love for music, and adventuresome spirit was definately there. | ![]() |
Susan walked into a music store one day and decided to buy a guitar. Our fist gig was in April, 1997 at the Stanford Coffee House. We played at Women's music night as the band "Resist" (a name we picked up from a box of Ritz crackers that was lying on the floor as we worked out a song about an hour before we went on stage). Kristi wasn't there because she thought we were kidding when we told her we actually had a gig. She never made it to another practice. | ![]() |
Later that spring, it was decided that Erin should pick up the bass. Now all we needed was a drummer. Stepping up to the plate was another redhead, also named Erin, and also a Pisces. The three of us never actually practiced together, but we did in fact eat together. | May, 1997: Susan and Erin went to Ken's Family Restaurant for breakfast. Our goal during the meal was to find a name for the band. We were getting absolutely nowhere on this quest until our order came, aka half of the items on the entire menu. We started gorging ourselves immediately. For the first time since we sat down, the conversation at the table ceased. After a few minutes Erin stopped and said to Susan, with a mouth full of food, "We're eating like truck drivers." Susan looked up as a wave of clarity swept over her entire aura. "That's it," she said. "That's the name of our band." | ![]() |
Summer, 1997: while Susan was in California and Erin was in Maine, we planned an Open Mic Cross Country Tour. We decided to make it a fund raiser for Ronald McDonald Houses. We had sponsors, T-shirts, stickers, and buttons. We sent each other audio and video tapes of our songs so we could practice up for the tour despite the fact that we were 3000 miles away from each other and could barely play our instruments. "Liked You Better", "The Donut Shop", and "Fairy Tale Song" are born. | ![]() |
September, 1997: the tour is a total success. We make new fans all accross the country. Well, the Eastern half, anyway. Erin composes "Kimble County Jail" from behind bars in Junction, Texas. | ![]() |
January, 1998: Erin finally reunites with Susan in California. Operation "find drummer" begins again. We have our priorities straight (as ususal). Notice the large tuna sandwhiches in the foreground and the guitar in the background. | ![]() |
Steve Enstead hops on board as "Zeus" the drummer from Mount Olympus. We play a couple of gigs on the Stanford Campus including EBF and Battle of the Bands and an Open Mic at Hotel Utah in San Francisco. Susan's "Consultant Shmultant", "Mental Hospital Dropout" and "Creep Through" are born. We have a solid seven song set. | ![]() |
Search for a drummer continues through the summer, fall, and next winter. Susan and "Red" continue to write songs, play gigs, (Stanford Palooza, White Plaza, & the Tip Top Inn) and eat large quantities of food. | Late March, 1998: Steve quits the band. Susan and Erin continue to play gigs and write songs as a hard rocking all-women's duo. Operation "find drummer" is reinstated. Erin's "Icabod Crimson", "On the Fritz", and "Boxes" are born. | ![]() |
March, 1999: An add in the SF Gaurdian results in a call from Stacey in Oakland. After one rehearsal, we knew she was the right one for the job. The burrito supreme is officially on the scene. | ![]() |
Things are hunky dory. We practice twice a week at the burrito's place in Oakland, we play at prestegious gigs all over Northern California, (The Lost and Found, Woodland Picnic & Bussaide). Red's "A HREF" is born.
|
January, 2000: The burrito mysteriously dissapears off of the face of the Earth. This doesn't slow the band one bit. SZQ and Red play the next two gigs (Valentines Day & Babylon) by picking random drummers out of the audience at the start of our shows. | ![]() |
May 4, 2000: Diamond Dave offers to hit the skins for the band. He words up very heavily at a couple insane venues (The Enchanted Broccoli Forest and the Cyberbuss Ball Garbage Haul). Red gets dumped and writes "OK to play" | ![]() |
May 22, 2000: Diamond Dave is kicked out of the band because he is a man. His comment, "a drummer in the hand is better than two with a bush." | ![]() |
September, 2000: Julie Andrews sends an e-mail to Red, announcing that she might be the next drummer for ELTD. As it turns out, she was right, thus beginning a two-gig, four-month streak of good times and great oldies. |
Spring, 2001: Julie is kicked out of the band, then ends up shaking up with Red in a lovely forested home in Marin County. Meanwhile, SZQ moves to New York City to continue the east coast conquest |

July 2005: Living on opposite coasts doesn't stop the band from meeting, eating, gigging, and shooting the Summer 2005 Swimsuit Calender. | ...the rest remains to be seen... | ...back to the homepage action... |
